Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education Comments on ‘Trojan Horse’ scandal

At a Scottish Referendum meeting on 9th June 2014, Mike Russell, Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education was answering questions about the Scottish Governments independence proposals.

I asked Mike Russell:

In light of the ‘Trojan Horse’ incidents down-south today – whilst I understand Scotland has a different system, which you are in charge of, although we have had the Kirktonholme scandal – what would independence to to challenge the undue influence of religion in education?

His answer:

My comments:

“I do not share the Cabinet Secretary’s confidence, I regularly receive complaints of religious influence in our state schools from parents all over the country.

The Kirktonholme scandal should show the Cabinet Secretary that we need a root and branch reform of religion in education.

Why, in 2014, do three unelected religious representatives deserve a seat on every local education committee? It’s time Mike Russell answered some of these questions.”
